About Us

The Diocese of Visakhaptnam has records of mission activities as far back as 1669. Under the able guidance of the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales, it took shape of a full fledged Diocese in 1887. Since then the educational activities have seen great strides and today thanks to the Archbishop, the Diocese of Visakhapatnam boasts of quite a many educational institutions. St. Mary's Centenary College of Education takes the pride of place for being started on the occasion of the Centenary of the Catholic Diocese of Visakhapatnam and hence the name "Centenary".

Rt. Rev. Dr. K. Mariadas, M.S.F.S.,D.D.,J.U.D., the then Catholic Archbishop of Visakhapatnam, was the founder of St. Mary's Centenary College of Education. Presently, Archbishop His Grace Dr. M.Prakash, D.D., is the Manager of St. Mary’s Centenary College of Education along with many other institutions in the Archdiocese of Visakhapatnam. He is academically an eminent personality having Doctorate in Indian Philosophy. He is proficient in many languages and he is the General Manager of all Catholic Schools and Colleges in the Archdiocese of Visakhapatnam. He is also the Chairman of this College and the President of the Governing Body of this Catholic Christian Minority Institution. St. Mary's Centenary College of Education was started in the true tradition of the Catholic church with the sole aim to draw people to GOD in wisdom, knowledge and accordingly to wipe out ignorance from the minds and hearts of people. The College proudly joins the array of innumerable Catholic educational institutions spread far and wide with a spectrum of approach.

The beauty Port City of Visakhapanam has, of late, gained much importance with the Steel Plant atop a host of industries. Many an educational institution spread through the place serve as a garland to adorn the City. St. Mary's Centenary College of Education adds to it a fine flower ever fresh and fragrant. The College continually prays to its loving patroness Blessed Virgin Mary for heavenly assistance to find fulfillment.

"Mission with Vision" is the motto of the College. Mission denotes the CALL for every person much more so, for an educated person to help in the growth and development of the humanity as a whole. It evokes an immediate call from Lord Jesus Christ to serve one's neighbours. The vision stands for the power of Understanding or the insight into realities especially that concern the interests of neighbours. Ultimately the motto would mean that every member grows into a full fledged person, gets enlightened regarding social and human values and offers to help others in achieving similar growth, welfare and development.

The National Council for Teacher Educations has given recognition to St. Mary's Centenary College of Education in the year 1998-99 for the first time and there after it is renewed every year. The Minority Status was accorded to this institution in the year 1999 by the Minority Welfare Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh.
